How
it started: Glenn spend the first 10 years of his career in
business banking and realized it wasn’t his calling. He spent the next
6 years in marketing consulting. In 1995 he began management
consulting. After 9/11/01 his business stalled and he spent about 5
months “alone with God” reading his Bible. The Lord spoke to him to
restart his business but, “Do it my way this time!” Glenn found
businessmen looking for a better way to become ethical, sustainable, and
transferable. The Lord began to resurrect Glenn’s business around
Biblical principles for leadership in business. Glenn began to the
organization he previously analyzed as “organisms.” That was the
beginning of “Leadership Lighthouse” and special forums to disciple
businessmen
Personal Passion: Glenn’s personal passion is be a
mentor/pastor to businessmen. His heart is to encourage, equip, and
partner with Christian leaders to live at a Godly standard. He imparts
the stewardship of a leader’s time, talent, and treasure.
Personal Benefit: The personal benefit for Glenn has been
the alignment of four areas of his life; 1) his purpose, 2) his
vocation, 3) his avocation, and 4) God’s purpose for advancing the
kingdom. We all simply want to do what God called us to do. The
feeling is that of being part of something beyond your self; a purpose
bigger than yourself. “Freedom” in the knowledge it’s not about you.
Value
to others: Glenn imparts the same alignment to those he
consults with in the business community… helping others connect the same
four areas in their lives too. The “Leadership Lighthouse Forum”
currently operates primarily in Charlotte NC (a regional banking
center). Membership in the Forum consists of bi-monthly luncheons for
businessmen. There are also small group executive forums consisting of
6-8 business leaders that meet for half days once a month. These small
groups represent a Christian board of advisors that consists of peers
from the business community. These small groups are where executive can
be discipled in an environment they are familiar with by people they
trust. This powerful impartation is both natural and spiritual and has
the remarkable affect of increasing the bottom line. The cost to the
business is $675 per month – fraction of the financial fruit that
results from the forum. To date, Glenn has served family business
leaders and organizations in 17 states and the Bahamas, and it continues
to grow.
Business Potential (upside): Glenn has the opportunity to
redefine leadership in a way that really redefines discipleship. He
sees leadership as a means of small group discipleship and the
opportunity to make more disciples in the marketplace. His goal is to
use business to create wealth for kingdom reinvestment (e.g. growing the
business, to create more jobs, and mentor more disciples. There is an
open door in 3rd world countries because they are hungry to learn
American business principles (which are really resting on a Godly and
scriptural foundation).
Complexities, failures (downside): The marketplace can be a
tough mission field. People are not always hungry for God or willing to
connect with spiritual realities.
Vision for the Kingdom: Leadership lighthouse is a “for
profit” company; a real business. Glenn has three goals for three
generations of business leadership (2 Tim 2:2)
-
Establishing a Foundation
– a financial pool of start-up capital for businesses
-
Mentoring businessmen
-
Raise up more mentors and
consultants that do what he does.
Glenn’s vision to obtain
these three goals is to teach business owners how to increase their
profitability in exchange for a tithe of a few percent on the “increase”
in revenue which would be used to support the foundation for start-up
capital for other new businesses. Glenn wants to build a bridge between
kings in the business community and local church pastors. Lastly, he
sees God about to release finances through business for the sake of the
great commission.
Impact from Releasing Kings: Releasing Kings helped Glenn
understand his calling to mentor Kings (a pastor to businessmen). The
book articulates the God’s current move to “release Kings” that will
really bring ministry into the marketplace. The Lord showed him that
the “qualification” for ministry in business is spending time with
Jesus.
When they saw the
courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled,
ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men
had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13 (from New International Version)
